Opis: Controversies in Uro-Oncology vol.36 - T Wiegel

Over the past few years, tremendous progress has been made in the development of therapies for prostate and bladder cancer. As a consequence, greatly improved surgical techniques as well as new forms of radiotherapy, chemotherapy and hormonal therapy are now available. This interdisciplinary approach is reflected in the broad scope of this volume, which aims to provide an overview of current treatment strategies for bladder and prostate cancer. The first part of the book discusses the optimization of radiation techniques like 3D planning or IMRT and focuses on definitive radiotherapy with or without adjuvant or neoadjuvant hormonal manipulation. The quality of life after therapy is another important issue. Further chapters deal with radical cystectomy and organ preservation by radio-chemotherapy as well as the treatment of T1G3 cancer. In the last part, the emphasis lies on brachytherapy, which has become increasingly important for the treatment of prostate cancer.Part 1 - 3-D-planning and dose-escalation: planning target volume and dose prescription in definitive radiotherapy for prostate cancer with favourable prognostic factors, S. Wachter, N. Gerstner, U. Mock, R. Potter; dose escalation for prostate cancer - which dose for which person?, H.M. Sandler; planning target volume definition in dose-escalation studies, D. Vordermark, M. Flentje; inverse planning and intensity-modulated radiotherapy in patients with prostate cancer, J. Debus, D. Zierhut, B. Didinger, W. Schlegel, M. Wannenmacher. Part 2 - prostate cancer: radiotherapy after radical prostatectomy in patients with prostate-specific antigen elevation, T. Wiegel, W. Hinkelbein; is radiotherapy of pelvic lymph nodes successful in prostate cancer?, M.J. Eble, U. Maurer; hormone therapy in advanced prostate cancer, T.H. Forster, F. Stoffel, T.C. Gasser; intermittent androgen ablation as a treatment for prostate cancer, J.M. Wolff; controversies in chemotherapy of prostate cancer, R. Heicappell; adjuvant hormone therapy in locally advanced and localized prostate cancer, three EORTC trials, M. Bolla, Th. M. de Reijke, A. Zurlo, L. Collette; neoadjuvant androgen suppression and external beam radiation therapy, A.L. Zietman, C.T. Smith; quality of life following radical prostatectomy, R. Kirschner-Hermanns, G. Jakse. Part 3 - Bladder cancer: outcome of patients undergoing radical cystectomy for invasive bladder cancer, J.E. Gschwend; invasive bladder cancer - organ preservation by radiochemotherapy, C. Rodel, G.G. Grabenbauer, R. Kuhn, J. Dunst, T. Papadopoulos, K.M. Schrott, R. Sauer; radiation, chemotherapy and transurethral surgery - an organ-sparing alternative to the radical cystectomy, A.L. Zietman; T1G3 bladder cancer - the case for TUR and BCG, K. Miller; radiochemotherapy for T1G3 bladder cancer, J. Dunst, C. Rodel, A. Diestelhorst, H. Heynemann, K.M. Schrott, R. Sauer. Part 4 - Brachytherapy: the technique of 125I permanent implants, U. Maurer, M.J. Eble; interstitial brachytherapy with permanent seed implants in early prostate cancer, U. Maurer, T. Wiegel, W. Hinkelbein, M.J. Eble.
