This was the terrible purpose to which she was born. She, Morning Glory Johnsen, would have to sacrifice her life to break a curse. At Haunted Falls, she had found everything her grandfather had foretold. She'd even found Coty.

Glory wanted to run away. She wanted to leave the one place where happiness was beginning to bloom within her, even though summer was coming to an end. But she couldn't move from her spot on the rock. She could not move, gripped in the horrible legend of her own destiny!

Her hand pressed into the roughness of the rock upon which she sat. Glory felt its hard, unyielding surface and knew this would be where she would die. She knew it like she knew her own reflection.
