La Posie nouvelle dont il est ici question n'est pas seulement une rcente manifestation d'art; mais sa nouveaut lui est essentielle, comme le principe mme de son esthtique. Notre posie franaise, fane, mourait, il y a quinze ou vingt ans. Quelques jeunes hommes survinrent, anims d'une ardeur louable, pris de Beaut; ils n'essayrent pas de restituer un semblant de vie aux poncifs anciens, mais ils voulurent inaugurer un art tout neuf dans son aspiration et dans sa forme. Ils affirmrent leur croyance qu'il n'y a pas de posie sans la fracheur de l'impression, - la posie, en somme, n'ayant d'autre objet que de nous faire apercevoir la prsence relle de toutes choses.

Il serait exquis de se figurer le premier printemps de la terre, si Adam n'avait pas t, sans doute, d'une mentalit trop rudimentaire pour en goter la grce fragile...
