It is obvious to all that a book dealing with such contentious topics as the Jameson Raid and the works and methods of Mr Ehodes must provoke a deal of hostile criticism, whatever be the writer's attitude; but let me in self-defense remark, that in all questions treated in the pages of this book it has been my endeavour to present a perfectly impartial statement of the facts of the case. I hold no brief on behalf of, or against, any group or clique either in London or South Africa.
