However, as night came on and no signs of departure, we returned to our cabins, when soon the all-powerful god took possession of our minds, and we enjoyed that repose which only visits the eyes of the weary.

Sunday morning before daybreak I was awoke by the voice of the stewardess singing out that the captain's boat had hove in sight, and that there were two ladies with him. These turned out to be friends of captain B.'s, who had come over with him from New York to enjoy a short time in England, and now were returning to their native land. Before many minutes had elapsed the boat came alongside, and a gangway being cleared, the captain with his friends embarked. The word of command was passed along, and soon the lifting-gear of the anchor was set to work, while the men merrily song the usual

"Come, heave away, my jolly boys,
We're all bound to sea."

The anchor being up, which, however, took rather a longer time than I have taken to narrate the fact, we made fast a long rope, gave the end to the men in a tug-boat which was engaged to tow us beyond the bar. and a short way down Channel, put the helm about, and slowly sped along - outward bound.
