Although this text is planned primarily to cover one year's work in the subject, the supervisor can, by careful selection or expansion of topics, apply it to any of the programs mentioned above, since it has incorporated in it the material found in most courses in elementary business training.

Elementary business training lays the groundwork for the specialized training that follows later in the commercial course. It helps the student to discover what aptitudes he has for the various phases of business, and what specialized course in the broad commercial curriculum is best for him. It is also of value to him as a worker in industry, or as a possible employer, and last but not least, elementary business training has a profound significance for every individual in the home and community.

Every person has daily business contacts as a consumer, if not as a producer. It is this social aspect of the subject that must be understood and emphasized to a greater degree by the teacher of the subject.
