Opis: The Register of Ralph of Shrewsbury, Bishop of Bath and Wells, 1329-1363, Vol. 10 - Wells Catholic Church; Diocese of Bath

Excerpt from The Register of Ralph of Shrewsbury, Bishop of Bath and Wells, 1329-1363, Vol. 10: From the Original in the Registry at Wells

1601. John, archbishop of Canterbury, to Bishop Ralph.

Certain seekers of alms go about to extort gold or money for the use of the fabric of our church, which they falsely pretend to be broken to pieces from the foundation. We enjoin your brotherhood that you cause such detestable errors to be reproved and openly inhibited throughout your diocese.

Canterbury, viij Id., March, A.D. 1340, and the 8th of our translation.

Annus Domini millesimus ccc quadragesimus primus.

1602. iii Kal., Ap., A.D. 1341, at Wyvelescombe. The lord gave orders to the archdeacon or his official for the induction of Geoffrey de Alveton to the prebendal church of Bathewyke, presented by the abbess and convent of Wherewelle. Geoffrey admitted to the said church, being vacant by the resignation of Master William de Wyntereshulle, the last prebendary, made into the hands of Master Walter de Stauren, official of Lincoln, the see being vacant.

1603. 2 April, A.D. 1341, at Wyvelescombe. The lord admitted John de Kilveton, priest, to the parish church of Estcantokcshesd at the presentation of Alexander Loterel, knight.

1604. 4 Ap., A.D. above, at Wyvelescombe. The lord instituted Richard, son of John Clerk (Clericus), of Cruk, to the chapel (with cure) of Wayford, vacant by the resignation of John de Weston, at the presentation of John Aleyn.

Same day and place. The same Richard, so being admitted, swore that if it happened that the vicar of Kyngeston be in any way bound by Richard de Rokeber', he will resign the said chapel.

1605. 6 May, A.D. above. Letters dimissory for James Benford, rector of the church of Jerlington, acolyte, to the order of subdeacon.

1606. 11 June, A.D. above. The lord instituted Robert Tomer', deacon, at Chiw, to the vicarage of Hengstrigge at the presentation of Raymund Pelegrini, canon of Wells, and prebendary of Hengstrygge.
